Alan has a blue pinstripe suit (not black), to demonstrate his coldness but not severity. He has a power tie to show that he is always in charge if he can help it, and wingtips to exemplify that he gets to the point.

Annette is more of the traditional wife, yet also far more professional than Veronica. A sensible, black skirt that's not too tight (A-line) makes the appropriate connection that she wears the skirt, or is decidedly the traditional female in her relationship. A blazer gives her the professional edge, the navy color associating her with her husband. The blouse should be a more masculine design, since she works in a male-dominanted field, but a feminine color to display that side of her. Her shoes are sensible and plain, and in this case flats due to the height of the actress. Her jewelry is simple but expensive looking, probably a gift from her husband on an anniversary, birthday, or holiday.

Blue-collar, and therefore a blue button-up. He's basically a professional blue-collar worker, hence the khakis. He either has a jacket or a tie, not both. His shoes are a combination of a dress shoe and a boot, comfortable but still relatively classy.

The shirts/colorful jackets and jewelry are, for the most part, fair-trade. Birkenstocks, a staple for new-agers and hippies. The billowing black pants and neutral sweater add a bit of class, and exemplify the high economic standing of the Novaks.
